Also known as red beryl, it is very rare and seldom seen as a cut stone. It has an intense color due to the presence of manganese.
Locations:
Red Beryl was first discovered in the Thomas Range in Juab County, Utah in 1905. It was only till 1950’s when much better and larger crystals, which were suitable for faceting, were found in the Wah Wah Mountains (the Violet Claims), near Beaver, Utah, USA. Till now, this is the only place in the world where gem quality Red Beryl is found.
